A Exchange Between 19-Year Old Me and 29-Year Old Me on my 29th Birthday

Dear older, more boring Me,

So it looks like our dream of working on a farm collective somewhere in space and publishing groundbreaking philosophical treatises about the existence of a four-dimensional world limited by three-dimensional emotions while writing cutting-edge poetry on the side never came true. Bummer.

But hey, blogging in Miami is pretty cool, too. That joke about farting was really funny.

Love,
young, idealistic You

Dear young, idealistic Me,

If life doesn’t get simpler the older you get, you’re doing something wrong. Fact.

Love,
older, more boring You

P.S. It turns out the plan to get chicks to sleep with you by going on about how genius The Stranger is doesn’t work. I repeat: does not work.

happy bday. You are too young to be so clever. I know, I know, clever doesn't come with age, but for those of us aging, we can fantasize about one day becoming clever.

happy birthday!

And is it me, or does your age keep changing? I could have sworn you were my age or younger. Turns out you're older.

The Stranger never works. He cops a feel in a movie theater, hardly mourns for his relations, and then kills an Arab? Bad choice.

Now The Rebel...

Presumably, with The Rebel one could attempt the whole 'stalwart but still has warmth within him because his rebellious fervor overfloweth' type thing.

Maybe a nice hat to go with it.

Am I sensing a pity party?

You work at home, in your PJ's I might add, live with a beautiful, funny, talented and kind woman, have the freaking sun shine every day, go to the beach in November, and, most importantly, fulfill you passion every day by writing. I think you have a damn good life.

Be grateful.

I love you.
