NPR Is Brooke’s BFF

Brooke: “Did you know that most mothers instinctually carry their baby on their left-hand side because it’s close to their heart?”

Me: “Where did you hear that?”

Brooke: “A friend told me. I can’t remember who.”

Me: “Was it someone who just has a baby?”

Brooke: “It was someone I was driving with in the car.”

Me: “You don’t drive around with that many people.”

Brooke: “Wait. Never mind. It was the radio. Sometimes it feels like NPR is talking just to you, you know?”

ha! I do the same thing with CBC radio in Canada (our version of NPR, which is obviously way cooler since its Canuckian.) I quote the CBC like we're buds. Which we are, since all my tax dollars go there. And to socialized medicine too.

Are you calling NPR a liar? WHO DO YOU WORK FOR! (Said in Jack Bauer voice.)

I, too, love NPR. I always knew you were a girl after my own heart.

I have to go with I carry on my left because I'm right handed. I think the closer to the heart is sweet though. NPR is talking just to you.

I sometimes use the "someone told me" phrase just to avoid being a total NPR geek who begins every sentence "the other day on NPR ...." Makes it at least seem like I have friends.

ITA with the right-handed commenters. You gotta do stuff!!

It is also way easier to say "A friend of mine..." rather than "one of the people I post with on a message board..." All the same reasons.

Dear Google,

Do left-handed mothers also tend to carry their babies on the left hand side?

Google says: Yes. Furthermore, the way we carry our babies may have more to do with the way our babies innately turn their head than the mother's preference (most babies have a preference to turn their head to the right).

Back to bed.
